I don't know why our Billionaires went with this. Putin regularly kills his rich Oligarchs and so did Hitler. Currently they make huge profits and are amazingly wealthy. They are destroying Democracy just so they don't pay 20% income tax like the rest of us? They are mentally ill.

Oh! I forgot…it occurs to me that one contributing factor to our present circumstance was the seemingly small adjustment made during Reagan’s terms that eliminated the teaching of civics from public school curricula.
By NOT teaching the public how our “fragile experiment in self governance” as Jefferson called it, actually works, the Republicans paved the path to our present existential crises.

They attacked all of Humanities, especially History and Civics. They even announced that Corporations would not hire those with degrees in Humanities and started the MBA Degree which avoided both including Ethics.

They churned out entire generations of “denominator managers”- by which I mean, the way to profits and rich stock options is through draconian cost cutting, without regard to the impact of the most valuable asset-human capital, people, employees, “wage slaves” as they were called in the 1850s run up to cessation. Sad how little things change from one perspective, and how drastically they do from another.
An interesting aside, one of the most intriguing jobs my wife held was, as a graduate of a small liberal arts college, to serve as the interpreter translating users requirements to the nerds and geeks that populated early IT.
